The compressor motor has a thermal cutoff. It runs too long, gets hot, and turns off until it cools off. If the thermostat was never satisfied, the compressor will run base on the temperature hysteresis of that motor thermal switch opening and closing. But an insulated sensing bulb coupled to the evaporator doesn't help either. lol

We had one of these, but the version 2 here in South Africa from the 80's. I'm not sure if it had the sensor, but it was a convection oven and the buttons where in a matrix on the front with various dishes and things.

I have a '16 kia sedona, the wiper arms CAN be lifted with them in the parked position, I saw the instructions that you showed for changing them a couple years ago and still tried it, It is programmed into mine as well, even without needing it. Also, my sole experience with rain sensing was on a '00 buick lesabre, it worked well I would say at first, but after getting it's rain-x application that feature was rather useless as most levels of rain starting at a light mist would result in the wipers going straight to high speed. Luckily for me the solution was as easy as unplugging the sensor and the delay selector would default to the time based function of a lesser equipped car.

i think all modern cars have that trick to put the wipers up, just after swithing off the car you have to give a pulse to the wipers and they will stop in the upward position

just throwing a question up, because i really don't know who or where to ask it, so i'm hoping a smart person can give me some insight: i bought a portable a/c because i'm in a basement suite & couldn't use a window unit. i do get a lot of grit & dust coming into my suite, & i'm concerned it's going to go right into the exhaust pipe & into the unit. is this a legitimate concern? it doesn't look like there's any kind of filter keeping incoming dust out of the unit. is there any kind of filter i could put over the exhaust pipe that would prevent dust coming in, or would anything like that block the air outflow, making the unit less efficient? hope i'm making sense. thanks

Kettles are a Canadian thing then? It's always weird to learn of the few minor things that distinguish Canadians from Americans. Indeed, the idea of not having an electric kettle seems odd to me - it's like having pots and pans or cutlery, just a normal must have in a kitchen. For me it's both for tea and coffee, since I make my coffee with a french press and always have. Another fun differences that took me a long time to realize between Canadians and Americans is the whole wearing outdoor shoes in peoples' homes thing. I still can't wrap my head around it. The first thing one does when going into someone's home is renove your shoes or boots. Even as a teenager hosting house parties - near the entrance would be a big pile of shoes and boots. I used to live with roomates and the immediate way you could tell who was home and who wasn't when you arrived was just look and see who's shoes are present at the entrance. When one of the roomates would bring a girl home you could see right away haha - oh look there'ssone sexy boots, someone got lucky last night.

Off topic, but are you considering or working on a video about air fryers? I know nothing about air fryers and, well, you apparently seem to be my source for kitchen related appliance info since you convinced me to buy a tin opener and rice cooker, both of which I am extremely happy with. So, with that in mind, I'd like to hear your thoughts on air fryers before I consider buying one.

Hmmm. Tesla actually uses its cameras (yes, cameraS. more than one) to determine if it's raining and how heavy the rain is to determine wiper speed. Its software has an artificial intelligence neural network dedicated to automatic windshield wiper operation. Name another car with such technology.

I'm im the market for a new AC and I wonder of anyone has a recommendation. I currently live in a tiny apartment in the city and it does not take much at all to cool my place down - but the window AC unit I have is too loud and too powerful. Even on it's lowest setting it makes the place frigid in no time and it's constantly turning off and on; which I find annoying given how loud it is. I didn't even set it up last summer. So I've been considering one of these portable AC's since they seemed appropriate for me - but does anybody know if there's any new fangled window units that are especially quiet and not super powerful that could maybe just give me a nice consistent hum? Budget's not an issue, but the smaller and more discrete the better.

I've noticed this on the road! I'm pretty anti-electric car so I'm a bit prejudiced about those who drive them and scrutinize their driving - and I've noticed those stupid looking ionics slow down out of nowhere with no brake lights. In truth I think most people paying attention notice cars slow down very quickly even without brake lights; but it does feel dangerous and insane the way they some people in these cars can just slow way down seemingly without braking.

I swear I'll watch the whole thing, but until I get to that part, I'd just remark... if you have two shared walls, and you turn off your heating, then your unit is getting heated by your neighbours. Heck, if they normally heat at a higher temperature than you do, then again, they are paying for a part of your heat, and part of your heating comes from their furnaces' capacity. All this to say, if you calculate your needs on a period where your neighbours are heating more than you do, and then they decide to reduce their heating, it's possible that you realize you no longer have enough heating capacity. Alright I doubt it'd be enough to make much of a difference, but just being nitpicky.

Led lights must be made with addressable LEDs. Adjust the shades and brightness as you wish. Such things are already sold cheaply on every corner. If you don't like the shades, go ahead and buy an Arduino for fine tuning. Although now such garlands already come with brains controlled via a smartphone.

I don’t drink coffee. I never developed the taste for it. Until Mr coffee circa 1978 my parents had a series of perkalators. The one I remember most vividly was a tall aluminum one and I remember watching it perk away on the stove. I remember the taste. Burnt bitter mud. Not hating myself, I started drinking coke and Mountain Dew when I joined the workforce and caffeine needed to be a thing. While walking around a convention with my family recently I took custody of someone’s Starbucks drink… and I actually enjoyed it. I could still taste burnt notes that I didn’t like, but the other flavors balanced it out. I wonder how much of the extra weight I carry around is because of the perkalator and my resulting addiction to carbonated sugar water.

Being able to pay with cash without a subscription, or using prepaid charging cards would be great. I may be having a dozen charging apps on my phone. Companies, sometimes startups from various countries (I'm from Europe) that have my banking details and address, and who write me in languages I don't understand. That's not reasonable.

"...none of that PID regulator rubbish!" Pretty much like the thermostat in clothes irons or fridges. And yes, that's duty cycle control :) To be honest... I'm in favor of touch controls on induction cooktops, especially the flat ones that drop into a hole in the tabletop, European style. These things work in a rough environment, it's not your clean lab or living room. There's just too much risk of the cooktop getting flooded with boiling water, or dirty with oil/fat/etc., which would invariably lead to ingress of water, whatever is dissolved in it including salt, as well as household chemicals, through the buttons and rotary encoder stem holes. That would kill the electronics inside way sooner than expected. Using special industrial or military grade controls that offer IP67 or better at improved protection against chemicals could be a solution, but that's an expensive one. Plus having any holes in the glass increases the risk of cracking or breaking in case something hits the glass (e.g. if you accidentally drop a pan).
